We bought our beautiful Airstream Atlas for as much as some people pay for a house. It was a huge investment. Our experience with Mercedes was excellent, as they had recalls. Airstream was the opposite. When we lost hot water in New Mexico and were to be on the road for a month we called Airstream customer service. We were told to use the public bathrooms (during Covid). This was the first experience. It only got worse once we dropped it off to get the heater fixed. It sat at the dealer for 7 months because Airstream refused to replace the unit ($360.00). I could go on and on but we’ve never had such a terrible service experience. No repair we dropped it of for, even small, was ever fixed. The dealers complain about Airstream service and Airstream is not customer friendly so the customers needs go unfulfilled.
This beautiful RV went from a dream to a nightmare due to Airstream pathetic customer service. It would be bad enough to not have something repaired but to have to deal with Airstream’s rude representatives was unbelievable. It was enough to make us give up. We’re too old to keep fighting them. I’m writing this because we just sold it back to the dealer at an over 75,000 loss and I’m just really sad about the whole experience and sorry for the person who buys it.

I grew up admiring Airstream's timeless design and functionality. This camper's floorplan and options make it a joy for a weekend or a few weeks on the road. The large shower, residential toilet, large sinks in the bathroom and kitchen make it seem like home. The large projection TV and computer workstation allow me to use my computer and enjoy a movie.
Airstream customer service and dealers offer service way ahead of other RV dealerships and brands.
You will enjoy and airstream, the extra price pays off when you tow and camp in the RV.
I pray the brand continues decades into the future to stay true to the brand. Timeless classic, solid construction and excellent customer service.

We like our Airstream but there have been problems and really, too many for what Thor charges. About $5000 - $10,000 less would be more reasonable considering the build quality.
Fortunately, we're do-it-yourselfers and have remedied the problems we've encountered. But what about those that don't have or are unwilling to acquire the skills necessary to fix them? That's a topic we cover when on some of our journeys: can you imagine not knowing how to fix some of the things an RV-er will have and then having to take it in to the dealer? A lot of RV service epitomizes bottom-of-the-barrel customer relationships and quality of work is seriously lacking, generally. Believe us, the problems will be there whether you spend six figures or a low-5 number on another brand. Expect that assembly problems will be part of your complaints on any brand and again, Airstream is no better or worse.
Airstream fanboys will say, 'oh, the quality is great and we love our Airstream' and for a few, that's an accurate assessment. Some Airstreams are 'tongue-heavy'. Airstreams' specs say the tongue on our Flying Cloud weighs over 800 lbs. That's a good deal over the general guideline of 10% of the total weight of the trailer. No comment from Airstream (ever) on this and we deal with it. I do not know how other brands fare in this area, BTW.
Would we buy another Airstream? I think we'd try Lance, Grand Design or a couple of other brands next. They won't hold their value as well as the Airstream does but that's because of the 'cachet' Airstream has, certainly not the build quality but the fact that it's an iconic brand. Other than aerodynamics (which are great) it does not do anything better than the average other RV. Do a search under 'cabinets falling Airstream' or 'skin buckling Airstream' which is this brand's Achilles heel. Each brand has its own unique failings, not just Airstream. And this is not an indictment of Airstream but just one of those 'to be dealt with' things.
We like our Airstream but we also realize that it will require constant maintenance like any other RV does, not more and not less. If you're not willing to learn some basic skills in repair, rent an RV for your trips. Yes, I know you may pay a lot for your RV but price in an RV does not equate with quality like it does (generally) for a car. Paying megabucks for a trailer does not entitle you to hands-off or trouble-free ownership.

This review is for a BaseCamp 20X. This is a copy of the letter I wrote to Airstream/Thor.
To whom it may concern.
After 2 1/2 years of ownership, 11 service visits, and approximately 7 months total, in the shop, I’ve given up on ever getting the advertised airstream “experience”. (It’s currently in the shop since August 10th). I can’t tell you how disappointed I am in your product and its shocking lack of quality and dependability. This was my retirement gift to myself, always wanting to experience the airstream “life on the road”. After looking at other trailers, the BaseCamp 20X seemed like a perfect model to see how we liked RV traveling. Though we spent much more on the BaseCamp compared to the others we looked at, we believed it would be a better quality trailer and be more dependable on the road. We could not have been more wrong!
In the 24 trips we have taken, we have yet to have ONE trip, where everything worked properly and we didn't have to make a list for another trip to service. Here is a brief list of the issues:
1. Heater did not work on our first trip, fixed after the second visit, when I had to tell the dealer that there was a service bulletin.
2. Fresh water tank only is 20 gallons, even though my owners manual and the original information on-line showed 27 gallons. Huge difference! Your customer service said that’s the way it is, no apology of course. Weird how you can misrepresent your product like that with no repercussions.
3. All the interior panels in the bathroom were cracking, and had to be reskinned.
4. Black water flush inoperative. The valve was installed backwards from the factory.
5. LP cover warped, replaced, but is warped again. Looks so cheap.
6. Bathroom floor squeaks loudly, 3 visits to repair.
7. Vinyl floor blistering around same area as squeak around wet bath. 2 repairs. I’m assuming the glue was not good and I will be seeing this again.
8. Gray tank sensor not reading correctly. 2 repairs.
9. Water pump issues. 6 repairs!! They are replacing the pump again on this visit. It’s still in the shop.
10. Propane leak, arrived at campsite with no propane one time!
11. Our last trip, the a/c would barely cool, so we left our trip a day early. They say they can not find anything wrong with it. It has cooled perfectly prior, even in our 110 degree temps in Phoenix. This is a concern, as we travel with 2 dogs and we leave them in the trailer by themselves at times. Not any more, I can’t trust or depend on this trailer to be safe for them.
12. Both rear table tops delaminating. In the shop now for this. Seems to be a problem on other trailer models as well based on a customer I met in service.
13. Approximately a dozen other minor issues that one should not expect at any price. It was easier for me to fix some of them myself, rather than deal with the service department. (For the most part, another huge disappointment)
Until now, I just kept patiently thinking we would get everything fixed for good and not have to be in service so much. After over 2 1/2 years that hasn’t happened, and does not seem that it will. At this point we just feel so duped into believing the airstream quality myth. Once an iconic brand, you seem to be just another Thor trailer company now, only shinier and more expensive. I’m nervous every time we take it out, knowing something else will likely fail, possibly ruining a trip.
We have loved RV living and will continue our camping adventures. Our plan is to upgrade to a 22-23 ft trailer, originally planning on a 23ft flying cloud. Even after all this, we still thought we wanted to stay with airstream. That last cling to your brand was given up on when I dropped it for the current service visit . Another customer in the shop with a new flying cloud, had all the interior panels delaminating! We would feel stupid to pay another 60-70K to upgrade to a larger airstream, and have the quality issues we have now. I can’t pay for a name again.

I do like the Atlas. But they could do a much better job with quality control. The Airstream Customer Service is very disappointing.
Atlas Airstream issues to date, number one was before we pulled out of the driveway for our first trip. We ordered it prior to the pandemic but with manufacturing delays it took 11 months to arrive. I received an email from Steve Hartmann the regional director for Airstream stating the reasons for the delay was availability of parts and most of all they do not rush the process to ensure they deliver the best possible product. Not sure but my Atlas missed the quality control that he spoke about in his email.
1. Water lines never crimped and came apart at the fittings. Water lines were leaking before we left the driveway on our first trip. It’s evident that these lines were never tested and raised concern if the same person was responsible for the LP gas lines.
2. Plugged into the two USB charging ports on the sofa and out popped a piece of black plastic rendering this unusable.
3. Exterior storage compartment door hits the exhaust pipe when opening and closing. This has resulted in the door finish being chipped off.
4. The USB charging port above the passenger’s seat is also not working
5. As we were driving on Route 95 an alarm sounded and the light flashed on the driver’s console. Managed to pull off the highway to see on the screen that the luggage door was open. Checked the door and it was closed and locked. This alarm continued to sound off at random times all the way home. My wife had to leave her seat to silence the alarm on the multiplex panel.
6. When I went to turn on the battery heater as the temperature was dropping the key just spins 360 degrees.
7. Water pump is extremely loud and vibrates, told this is normal
8. The large cabinet doors are falling off and the hinge screws are coming out.
9. In the help videos it says that a LP quick connect hose is provided, I never received the hose.
10. Wardrobe closet shelf falls from bracket; it was cut to short
12. The canopy when extended is leaning on one side
13. Plastic cap located in water fill compartment is broken
14. Silverware and wardrobe closets open when making turns
16. Door hinge on camper access door coming apart (Photo attached)
17. Exterior coating is cracking where roof meets the rear of the camper (Photo attached) They will need the Atlas for 3-weeks to fix these cracks.
18. Roof seam tape is peeling off (Photo attached)
19. Received recall notice on the emissions 2020 Sprinter

Nothing but a pile of crap on wheels (that leaked) since the beginning. My brand new camper awning leaked like a sieve on our first rain storm over a labor day weekend. My friend's 15+ year old campers were dry, and I had water running down my door, windows and outdoor fridge area. Blinds wouldn't stay up, doors would swing open in transit, drawer catches broke off immediately, constantly popped the 30 amp break at every site we were at, had to run H20 heater on propane every time. Tires would be low/flat after sitting for more than a month. Cosmetically the siding was dented and storage locations were mounted crooked.
I took this back to the dealer to get fixed and it took them over a month to get it back. This is now October 2018. Got it back, put it in storage.
Got it out for 2019, all the same issues returned. Fixed them myself (was an hour and half to dealer one way)
Forest River customer service was a joke.
Dealership's only response after I got pissed was "Well, you didn't buy and Airstream"
Summer 2020
Camping with friends (no sewer), was watching my waste levels, and figured the gray water level wasn't working (not shocked), thought nothing of it... went to dump station, and couldn't believe the little bit of water that came out. Got home and saw a puddle under back of camper after we parked it, the insulation belly was fully of grey water, the shower drain pipe broke loose and it poured directly into the belly.
Current 2020 - DONE WITH THIS POS!

Below is an e-mail I sent to customer support.
On delivery, this unit had a broken bathroom skylight from overtightening the screws. The side panel on the pantry is broken and the gutter in the fridge was laying on a shelf, broken.
The gas struts on the awning are both slightly bowed and are getting in a bind. The bad one is the rainwater leak in the wall at the egress window in the bedroom. I didn't know there was a leak until the wall started blistering. Couldn't believe my eyes what I saw up on a ladder. Again, Winnebago just sent the unit out for sale like this. Who does this BS? Winnebago!
I have 5 pics of the exterior of this window if I can attach them.
Recent e-mail follows.
Let me say something right off the bat. I DID NOT push this window out. In case that wasn't clear, I DID NOT push this window out and that's the end of that.
When I got on a ladder to cover the window with plastic, I could not believe what I was seeing. What I believe I was seeing was the worse case of shoddy workmanship on installation I have ever seen, and by Winnebago, not the window manufacturer. There is NO Vendor tag on the window. Who does this kind of work then sends the coach to be sold. This is a 2024 piece of crap. I've had more things go wrong with this coach, starting with a bathroom skylight that was cracked, broken and leaking.
The Pic with the 25 cent piece is showing this window frame bent/bowed out without any caulking. The other Pics are self explanatory.
Let me tell you something else.
I bought this at Johnson RV in Fife, Washington. I have never seen a work place filled with so many incompetent people, including the service department. The only one knowing what he was doing was the guy filling in all the loan paperwork. The only thing I noticed during the walk through was that 1 exterior speaker was not working. It took them 8 Weeks, 8 WEEKS to get that speaker working. They ordered another speaker without checking anything else. The speaker was back ordered and took WEEKS to get, and then when they received it, guess what, the new speaker DID NOT work either. If they did not have an extra speaker to try they should of removed one of the interior speakers to try. If it didn't work they would know something was wrong somewhere else. Then it took them WEEKS to figure it out.
One more thing.
I'm having a Winnebago authorized Mobile RV Repair Co coming out to do the repair. This guy KNOWS HIS STUFF. He took an Airstream and turned it into a mobile Doctor's Office.
It's refreshing to meet someone that actually knows what their doing.
Next, this really sounds stupid to me, that Winnebago will not pay for the $180 Mobile Service Fee because it's for Convenance.
In fife, Washington I wanted the service department to do a few things and inquired about the hourly cost for labor in the service department. They told me their labor for Service is $250 per Hour. $250 PER HOUR! I said no I will do it myself.
My Mobile Guy charges $180 service and $120 per hour.
So, instead of Convenance, Winnebago wants me to be Inconvenienced, take the coach into a dealership and have it be there for weeks, instead of getting it fixed on site in a day or so.
Winnebago would rather have a dealership charge Winnebago $250 per hour fixing the wall and leak. Instead of having my Mobile guy fix it for $120 per hour. That mobile service fee would be more than paid for in 2 hours with labor @ $120 a hour. Winnebago would be saving money every hour after that. I've had it with the incompetence I've seen at the dealerships.
Word-of-Mouth Advertising is free and can be good or BAD!
Which way do you want to see this go?
I want this fixed on sight and Winnebago paying the $180 fee. I don't understand why Winnebago would rather pay more money to get this fixed (MAYBE), at a dealership, when I have a guy who's competent and will do the job right, THE FIRST TIME, and not take weeks
Where's the service after the sale? Get lots of attention before the sale, nothing afterwards.
I choose Winnebago because the on-line reviews were favorable and I liked the floor plan and the solar. WAS I WRONG! Does Winnebago have any Quality Control?
I hate to have to write all this but this is discussing and makes me sick that I could have made a bad choice with Winnebago.
If I can't get this resolved favorably I will be doing some online reviews myself.
Update: I received an e-mail this morning from Winnebago customer service, 8/28/24, and He acted like I never wrote any of the above.
Beware of buying a Winnebago. I bought this in December of 23' and have been fixing crap both myself and a pro ever since.
Buy at your own risk.
