I often get asked why we chose an 18-year-old motorhome, and my answer is simple: because they don't make them like this anymore. Our 2006 Monaco Diplomat 38PST isn't just an RV; it's a testament to quality construction, incredible engineering, and the freedom of the open road—without the hassles of modern emission systems. When we purchased this coach in 2023, the odometer read an unbelievable 6,000 miles. Some called us crazy for buying a "vintage" diesel with such low miles, but we took the plunge. After a meticulous tune-up and installing Brand New Hercules Strong Guard HTL Tires, this Monaco has been absolutely flawless. We've put 7,000 miles on it in two years—from the plains of South Dakota to the peaks of Banff—and have experienced ZERO mechanical issues. That proven reliability is why I love it. The Sweet Spot: Size, Power, and Comfort The 38-foot length is pure genius. With the three slide-outs open, we have all the residential space a couple could ever need, yet it still fits comfortably into almost all State and National Park campgrounds. This gives us access to places bigger coaches can't reach. Underneath the beautiful full-body paint is the legendary power train: Pre-DEF Cummins ISL 400 HP: Power without the Diesel Exhaust Fluid hassle. This engine is a proven workhorse that laughs at mountain passes. Roadmaster Chassis & Allison 3000 MH Transmission: This is the gold standard. The Roadmaster chassis provides a smooth, stable, car-like ride, and the Allison transmission shifts effortlessly. It's a true driver's coach. Interior Upgrades that Make it Home Monaco's construction is known for its quality wood cabinetry and solid surfaces, but we customized the living space to make it perfect for us. Swapping the factory sofa for a cozy recliner loveseat turned the living area into the ultimate relaxation spot. Add in the new Queen Mattress and porcelain toilet, and you realize every essential comfort has been addressed. This motorhome has taken us on the trips of a lifetime, including a recent 3,000-mile journey through the Tetons and Yellowstone. It handled every road and elevation change with grace, keeping us comfortable the entire way. If you are looking for a reliable, turn-key, low-mileage coach from the best era of diesel pushers, our Diplomat is truly exceptional. We are sad to see it go, but excited for the next owner to create their own incredible adventures in this meticulously kept machine.

I bought mine sight-unseen in the winter of 2009 during the financial crisis. eBay said "you've won!" and I instantly had heartburn. But it turned out better than I could have ever hoped. I got a helluva deal and enjoyed it for 9 years. Typical Winnebago (RV industry) quality. I was forced to become an RV technician, but willingly. Youtube is an amazing teacher. Previous owners (for nearly 3 years) had fixed any initial issues. I was able to fix Mercedes input air sensor issue, and other small ones. The converted couch bed was really not acceptable for my wife and I. Just too small. Even after getting a topper. In 2025 I can look back and say it was a great RV.

We have owned this RV for 10 years and have loved every minute of it. The floor plan is ideal for a family with children or a couple traveling alone. With four different beds there is plenty of room for everyone. We have even traveled with a group of nine and all had a place to sleep (kids were doubled up together). The motorhome handles really well and the towing capacity is 5,000 lb which was great because we were able to tow our boat. The bathroom is a decent size when the doors are closed transforming the space making room to change, use the vanity and shower. With this all-inclusive rig, the fun begins from the moment you start driving somewhere. The only thing I wish it had is a slide to make it a little more spacious.

This unit meets and exceeds most RV camping expectations; it's very comfortable and super easy to drive through on highways and through neighborhoods. Great for all type of road trips as well as a very secure emergency shelter during power outages from hurricanes or other major weather events. Truly more of a "glamping" experience for many adventures including an add on accommodations for visitors at your home.

Physically, this motorhome is a handsome looking unit, sides, front and back. Stylish modern graphics. It has good road manners, powerful and quiet. Quality inside, fit and finish is fine, not industrial strength to handle hard rough use. Electrical systems and plumbing continue to work as they should. The overall body is tight on rough roads, no rattles, creaks, squeaks. Well pleased with this unit. The negative issue I have had was the wimpy uncomfortable stock mattress, (changed that right quick) and the Ford Triton V10 engine exhaust manifold gasket leak. A snotty job to replace them, but not enough to give up ownership to another brand.
