Bought this RV in 2015 and still absolutely love it! We have gone to multiple RV shows and still come away knowing we have a higher quality motorhome than anything being offered now. National was an outstanding manufacturer! We will keep this motorhome as long as possible. Have replaced roof and other repairs but, it is well worth it! Tows our 5,000 lb jeep without an issue. Chevy 454 engine purrs like a kitten. All components still work (fridge, fantastic fan, generator, water heater, furnace, A/C units, etc.) Could not be happier and, if we ever HAVE to get rid of it, we will likely be looking for another National. Too bad they are no longer in business. Rumor has it, they refused to make cheap products to compete in the market. I believe that.

We purchased our 1998 spirit a couple years ago after downsizing from a 28’ pull-behind trailer. I love the quality and charm of this unit, the color scheme and fabric choice is tasteful, modern, and much more durable & better quality than newer fabrics.
The interior shows almost no wear, nothing noticeable, but as expected there are small things of normal use.
We love the floorplan with back entry directly to the kitchen & full bathroom. A fold out couch, dinette, and over cab bed will sleep 6-8 or more depending on your size & age. I can attest a couple of chubby retired Baby Boomers can be very comfortable.
As a 5’4”, 70 yr old female, I like that the vehicle drives like a charm and handles beautifully. It has the Chevy chassis and motor so goes anywhere. I installed a back/up camera and can maneuver into any lot now.
The exterior is in good shape too. Parked next to a new model it still looks new, however there is some de-lamination that is periodically visible with extreme heat. I think the previous owners had some water damage repairs done. But we have had the roof redone just in case, and have our “RV Guy” check it every year and caulk it if needed.
Due to my husband’s health issues we may have to give up the RV life soon, but until then we are loving it!!!
Overall it’s an awesome RV.

This Review is for a 1995 Chinook Premier - the budget/cheaper version of the Concourse.
The two of us have owned our Chinook for seven years. Upgraded the batteries/electrical system to modern standards to improve ability to boondock, replaced 3 way fridge with AC/DC Danfoss compressor fridge (huge upgrade), a few other minor tweaks. Our longest trip was seven weeks to the maritime provinces of Canada. For the size, it's a very livable floor plan. Couch/dinette makes into a California King which we can make/unmake in a few minutes (we leave the foam topper/sheets made on the couch portion and stow 'extra' under the couch when it is up. Pillows and bedding go behind the couch). The wet bath looks tiny, but you can do everything you need to in there including a hot shower. We have a 'one man rule' -- only one person can be up at a time because it is tight but more open than most B's we've been in (this is a B ).
Easy to drive, ample power for passing, 11 mpg running at 65 mph. With the new refrigerator we don't have to be level, so setting up camp takes a couple of minutes as does tear down. I think this is a great 2 person motorhome for people who like to MOVE. Sitting in camp for a week or two? This is too cramped for that, but you can go almost anywhere in this rig and see things. We camp in front of our kid's houses when we visit, we go to national and state parks and BLM land. We've logged 60,000 miles and maybe 250 nights out so far and this well built machine has enabled us to experience a lot of places.
Despite the age of the unit, problems have been minimal. Most of the unit is original, including the AC and generator which still work. We had to replace the furnace this year. We had a leak where I installed a new fan (my bad) but I fixed that easy enough. The spare tire holder had to be rewelded. The original fuel pump caused the engine to stall out in high heat, which might explain why I got the unit with such low miles. Thanks to the internet, I knew to get that replaced and later drove through Death Valley in 120 F with the AC blasting with no problems.
Trail Wagons went bankrupt years ago and the unit is 27 years old, so obviously no warranty/factory support. This is built on the 1994 Ford E350 Econoline chassis, so there is still good support for that.

My wife and I lived in this 40 ft single slide RV for 5 months over 2 summers.
We selected it for the quality of workmanship. Amish made maple cabinetry are still solid after 20 years and 50k miles on the road. Dual pane windows and day/night shades with window awnings allowed to front/rear low profile A/C units to keep the interior cool with minimal run time and noise.
The Spartan frame combined with the Cummins 325 Diesel engine provide a smooth Air Ride while easily climbing hills and descending them gracefully using the jake brake as needed. The Onan 7500 generator can run all appliances when running off-grid, which we often did when traveling the wide open roads. We upgraded the house batteries to 300 Lithium Ion batteries and 4 solar panels so that we could avoid running the generator unless we needed A/C or to do a load of laundry.
The 4068 floor plan allows full access to the entire interior so that the slide need not be extended for short overnight stops. The viewing angle of the HDTV is eye level when sitting in the leather couch (or recliner) which prevented neck strain. The fold out couch was used for several weeks and is very comfortable (I speak from experience).
Driving safety is enhanced by adding blind spot cameras and the improved color/night vision capability. We kept the stock b/w camera pointed at the hitch to improve backing. We towed our car by trailer and dolly many thousands of miles barely noticing it behind us. Our rig has a second box receiver that holds a bike rack so that we can easily use bikes even when hauling a car.
The basement is quite cavernous, holding not only the Norcold freezer, but also an inflatable kayak, solar oven, tools for the road and items we collected on our journeys. When we first bought the RV we carried most of our belongings in the basement when we moved to FL.
The original carpet was replaced with plank wood flooring that is much easier to maintain and better for the slide rollers. The slide rollers got brittle over the years and had to be replaced, which was tricky but quite feasible to on-going support from the Newmar support line that will help you get almost any replacement part. I had a leveler spring snap on one journey and Newmar support knew the exact replacement needed and set two springs to our next destination for a reasonable charge.
Required routine maintenance has been pretty minimal. We have had the fuel filters replaced (needed at least once per year due to marginal fuel at some stations). The air filter is quite large, but available thru Amazon and easily replaced through the interior engine hatch under the rear bed. Oil changes are pricy but rarely needed.
Overall we have been very happy with the Newmar Mountain Aire and look forward to many years more of service out of this solid motor home.
