We have owned our 2016 Forest River R-Pod 179 for two years now and absolutely love it. I really appreciate the style and layout inside. It feels modern and there’s plenty of cabinet space. I especially love that it is light weight and we can tow it with our Nissan Xterra Pro4X. I also appreciate that this model was made pre-Covid and it has the highest quality standards. Everything works and it has held together well Another bonus is that there is such a huge following of R-Pod lovers that we have been able to be part of a Facebook community where we have learned all kinds of tips and tricks about R-Pods and traveling safe and keeping it up-to-date. They even have rallies and meet ups all across the country.

After only 6 total trips with my R-POD 179 the trailer hitch folded up and I think the insurance company will be totalling the unit. I bought the trailer and anti sway hitch from the dealer on their recommendation. I was on my way on the 6th trip when I heard an unusual noises and pulled off the interstate and found a shoulder to park the unit on and saw the damage. I spent over 1.5 hours trying to find a tow company to get the unit to a nearby dealer. I loved the overall design of the unit and tow ability. I am a little disappointed with the overall quality of the unit.

Striking design with everyone wanting a peek inside. Good visability and a very comfortable sleeper. Forest River has done a fine job with this one.

This is a great little camper I towed it with a 16 Toyota Tacoma and a 2020 4runner. 3 times cross country put at least 40K on it slept in it 300 nights over 5 years. A tree fell on the roof, no really bad damage, the floor sloped bit under the large slide out, so I had some gussets welded on and it brought it back up. Had a slight roof leak, that I stopped, ruined a little of the ceiling. Both black and grey tank pipe hangers failed on the road had to bungee and fix them. the converter fried but that probably was my fault because I left a growler of beer to freeze and explode and evaporate in the bottom of the pantry. Other than that the thing was a pretty good little investment so much so I bought 2021 195. Join a Rpod message board listen to the owners anticipate the flaws and enjoy being on the road. its all about the adventure anyhow. Campers are made to be cheap and light so do some mods keep up with the silicone and maintenance and rock on.

Nothing was fully secured for example the blind assembly above the bed not to mention was about to fall off. I would advise not to buy form here they half ass the job and don't care for safety. The leaks were directly on the wiring and shorted the whole camper all the time.

We downsized to this model having chosen it over a few competitors, notable the Little Guy and the Lance 1685. They all have similar very compact floor designs. What won it for the R-Pod was the Kitchen at the back with lots of counter space. Largest we found. Also a slide out with a sofa style dinette uses the space very efficiently. It is small enough, and short enough, that with a dolly I can push it around the drive (385 lb. tongue weight). It weighs less than the truck. All this with no real sacrifice in livability. There are a couple things I would have wished for though, like a second outside storage area for the sewer hose, and a shelf above the bed. The latter easy enough to add. The former using a vinyl fencepost mounted across the unit underneath behind the stairs. Finally, separate outlets for the black and grey tanks is a little awkward at dump time, having those lead to one outlet would have been handy, like other RVs.

We've had our R-Pod 179 for a little over a year. When we got it home we discovered the right rear taillight wasn't working, which I fixed myself (the wires were not connected properly). After our first trip with it we had 11 warranty issues. We bought out of state, but our local dealer was happy to do the work. Unfortunately, it took two months to get it done, due to parts/approval delays, so we basically missed most of the summer season. Forrest River, after a lot complaining, thankfully reimbursed us for two payments. Also, I had to fix two of the local dealer's repair mistakes. It was also back to the dealer for a wiring recall, which was fixed same-day. Two trips later the roof leaked on the bed during a rainstorm, which I fixed. Now it's leaking from the bathroom roof vent, and the A/C unit. I'll fix these as well (it's out of warranty). This is our fourth new travel trailer, and we've never had these kind of problems! I definitely would not recommend purchasing anything from Forest River! Now off to fix today's leaks...hope this helps.
