Grand Design means Poor Execution. Ours had the following defects:
Underbelly heater duct was too short and not inserted into the floor. No underbelly heat meant our pipes froze on our first fall trip. Sawdust leaking out of every crevice everywhere. They never cleaned up as they were building it. Also wood screws, and enough spare parts under the cabinets to install a second TV antenna. Kinked hot water pipe. Electric tongue jack wired thru unprotected holes in steel frame. Combined with the fuse failing to blow, there were sparks and burn marks where the wires wore thru. Poor paint job. The frame and stairs were rusting before the first season was over. Surging water pump. 6 months to replace a recalled and faulty Chinese made propane pressure control valve. Undersized battery dead within 2 years. Cheap Chinese made Westlake tires wore out at 7,000 miles. A defective toilet valve flooded the bathroom and there is no way to turn water off just at the toilet. You have to turn off the water to everything. There are no shut off valves to any of the sinks or the toilet. But there was a loose fitting elbow drain under the shower.

We were told we were buying a high-quality travel trailer but we were lied to. Our first trip out the gray handle fell off of the gray tank, the spare tire fell off and could’ve killed someone, the sliding door to the master bedroom completely fell off, the drawers and cabinets that have hardware to lock them into place during travel don’t even connect to lock because they were installed incorrectly. The refrigerator stopped working, the electrical outlet plugs stopped working and the air conditioner completely stopped working. We tried to get all of this taken care of under warranty. We could not get any place to take our trailer to as they said there was such a shortage in repair staff. The first appointment we could get anywhere was so far out dated, our warranty would have been expired. Grand design would not extend our warranty to accommodate for this. Therefore we bought a problem on wheels. Choose a different brand they do not honor their warranties and they do not build quality products. Whoever installed the hardware must’ve been high as a kite. We bought it at Mike Thompson RV in fountain Valley and they were useless to us as well.

We are an elderly couple that thoroughly enjoy the 17MKE. We have been on many trips and have never had anything fail. 1 downfall might be that the length of the trailer could be stretched out 14" so the bed could be laid down without the slide being moved out. The table for the Theater seats could also be improved on (move it over the seats more). The floor plan is roomy with great counter space and there is lots of storage space The side docking station is very convenient and user friendly. I tow the 17MKE with a 2017 Ford Expedition with the V-6 eco-boost engine and it has no problem on any grade. We would definitely recommend the Grand Design 17MKE as a couples trailer.

Please do not purchase this GRAND DESIGN IMAGINE!! The quality of the build is terrible and this all starts the day you pick it up. First the manufacturer will send this product out in such bad shape after their supposedly quality check to the dealership. Then when you assume ownership the GRAND DESIGN Manufacturer will completely become your biggest problem. From their choices of dealership to proper product production to available repair parts . Every phase of the GRAND DESIGN ends in a nightmarish journey in total despair of owning one their trailers. I can't even begin to explain the madding process of dealing with this group . The lies and disinformation is just staggering let alone the weeks on end of trying to get information. I purchased my trailer on August 22nd 2022 and have yet been able to use my trailer. So Grand Design finds this situation as business as usual and no problem for them , why because they have your money on your good faith to them and they inturn act like they have done you a favor by selling you their best they can do products and to hell with customer service or warranties. So if they keep your trailer for 4 months to do repairs from the manufacturer it would only be fair to extend the warranty for those months you had it in their possession. But GRAND DESIGN knows that their product is so bad they can't keep up with the bad products they sell you. My hope is that I save someone from the nightmare I am in during for owning one of their trailers. Please Please DO NOT BUY A GRAND DESIGN PRODUCT YOU WILL REGRET THE PURCHASE. I have yet to be able to spend 1 night in the trailer since I bought it on August 22nd 2022 and made 4 payments. Grand Design shame on you and your LIES.

Nail holes covered up with wood filler that looks very messy, bad panel has to be replaced, water leak on hot water heater, poor ground so battery would not charge correctly, ceiling panel strip loose plus had to redo the equalizer hitch for was setup wrong.
Found water leaking under camper and took into dealer and said could not find it and now want to charge me for looking for leak for not under warranty if unable to find leak.
Wood, fake, covering pilling of the bench sits and unsure if factory warranty on it.
Wish I would of never traded in my Keystone for this camper.

Have made a few cosmetic changes as well as added Moryide steps. (best addition to date) as of now, no issues to report. Unit cools quickly in the summer and for a camper, stays pretty warm on the cool nights. Pulls very well. I think we may be GD4L

Wife and I have been living in the trailer as we travel the country for the past 3 years. Pros: We’re happy with the space, comfort and livability. We like the floor plan and the kitchen work space is efficient. It’s surprising how much stuff we have stored in here. The trailer pulls fine and is easy to manage the maintenance. We’ve spent weeks at higher elevations where temperatures got in the 20’s overnight. No problems with freezing using the propane furnace. Annual maintenance service has been great. We had one repair after an inattentive driver bumped the back and poked a hole in the outer wall. Dealer promptly fixed it—replaced the back wall with an improved version and they had it back to us the next day.
Cons: our exterior black water valve stuck open / was hard to close, so I ended up replacing it. The grey water valves work fine. We have trouble raising and lowering the dining table for the bed when our grandkids stay overnight — but that could just be our problem and not a flaw.

My wife and I upgraded from a 2011 Keystone Sprinter to this hoping to get better use out of the bunk house layout. While that worked out, we have had many issues we did not expect. 1: the build quality is lacking. Dried glue is visible throughout the interior, trim is separating, sliding doors come off rails. 2: sewer tanks are leaking into drain cap. General RV cannot seem to replicate the leak and I've had to get creative to avoid a mess. 3: rear grey tank dump valve is seized. It is located right behind the driver side tires and is covered in road grime. General RV won't cover the replacement as it is a "maintenance failure" on my part. 4: Exterior kitchen leaks rain water into bunkhouse. 5: Perhaps this is because the camper is 37' long, but towing it is no walk in the park. Tow vehicle is a Ram 3500 crew cab long bed with the Cummins engine. Power and braking are fine, but stability on the interstate at speed is very squirrelly (with sway bars adjusted per dealer (and double checked by myself)). 6: OEM tires are garbage. Curb side rear tire was perfectly inflated, but blew apart (like a retread) tearing my propane lines to my fridge and stove away in process. Tires came with a 5 year warranty, but General RV of Ashland VA won't return our calls.
There are other smaller issues, but we are already looking for the next camper. We will not be considering Grand Design.
