BEWARE OF GRAND DESIGN RV AWNINGS Grand Design installs the Solera 3000 Awning by Lippert, which is a design disaster. It can’t shed rainwater, so water pools on top until the awning collapses under its own weight. When I asked for help, I was told it’s “only meant as a sunshade” – not for rain. That’s unacceptable on a product built for outdoor use. Buyers, beware.

Overall have been very disappointed with the quality of our Reflection 303 RLS. We have had drawers fly out when we are driving, the refrigerator doors open on numerous occasions, the shower wheels brake and the worst is our sofa couch. You cannot sleep on it without a wedge. I was very fortunate to find Otis Bedding that was able to make me a wedge where my family can now sleep comfortably. I highly recommend reaching out to them if you have this travel trailer.

I bought my Grand Design 27MAV RV excited to camp in all sorts of weather. But one shocking flaw has soured the experience – the factory-installed Solera 3000 Lippert awning. The first time it rained, water pooled on the fabric because the design doesn’t allow it to run off. Within minutes, the weight bowed the arms and destroyed the awning. When I asked for help, Grand Design told me the awning “wasn’t meant for rain” == only as a sunshade. Imagine that: a camping RV that can’t handle rain on its awning! If you’re considering Grand Design, know this upfront: you’ll either need to avoid using the awning in rain (completely impractical), or pay out-of-pocket for a sturdier replacement.

We also love the full size bed and small armoire in the bedroom for clothing. The kitchen set up offers lots of counter space and lots of storage. We are happy with the microwave/air fryer in place of the very small oven they had before.

This is the third camper we have purchased for our family. We switched to Grand Design because of all the great things we have heard about them. This camper has been nothing but a nightmare. We purchased it brand new. After our first trip, the glass entry door shattered. It took about 3 months to replace it. The dealer did install a temporary door so the summer wasn't wasted. Then, the exterior ladder pulled out of sidewall, interior panels started popping off the walls, the back garage wall was not securely fastened to the side walls, and one of the bolts on the garage door broke off. It turns out it was missing multiple studs and backers. Grand Design told us to take it to the dealer for warranty repairs. That was an epic fail. The dealer did more damage to everything they touched and took multiple shortcuts. We complained and Grand Design said they would fix it. We just got the camper back and not only did they make more damage, but they also cut corners and failed to fix everything. You can see daylight through the panels by the nightstands, the entertainment cabinet is scratched, marred, and damaged. Nothing was resealed or even replaced. We reached back out to Grand Design and they told us to take it back to the dealer for warranty work. That is where we are now. Standby for updates.

We love this rv it pulls great and it’s just enough space for the 2 of us. It may be small but it has tons of storage and the space is layed out efficiently. We’ve spent a week in it and had no issues. The kitchen has plenty of storage for all the food and dishes you want. Plenty of clothing storage around the bed. The bed easily folds out into the Murphy bed, you could do it with one hand. The dinette also folds down into another bed for a couple extra people. The bathroom has tons of storage too. The outside griddle makes cooking even better when you’re in a campground.

The floorplan is the best possible floorplan for the the way we travel. The desk space and the island kitchen have become essentials for us. If you want these amenities in a travel trailer, this is your unit. But it does have down sides. Foremost is the anemic cargo carrying capacity. Forget the factory weights, it will be heavier even dry. you are looking at a 1000# plus tongue weight. And once you add the basics like cables and hoses and a weekend's worth of clothing and food you will be at the weight limit. Distributing that weight is also a challenge as the unit is back end heavy. You will likely need to tow with the tongue slightly down to balance the load, which will increase the tongue weight even more. It is a drop frame to increase storage volume, so depending on your hitch you will be getting close to the ground. We use a P3 and get 4-5 inches of ground clearance. So with the gross weight, tongue weight, rear weight, and then add sail area, plan on a 3/4 ton TV. The math from GD might make you think 1/2 ton, and the fan boys will all say "Like it isn't even there" or "No problems". But you need a 3/4 ton for this trailer. The usual quality issues abound. Gaps in sealant, trim falling off, bubbles in the roof membrane, incorrect PEX fittings, sawdust everywhere. We have needed three repairs and I did all of them myself. The process of returning to the dealer 2 hours away, dropping off for warrantee claim, picking it up again, returning when the parts are in, and final pickup means 8 hours on the road for every issue. Give me a Mobile Tech or ship me the part! But in the end, worth it for the floorplan!

Also, the entry door doesn’t latch without holding open the handle. We’ll have to cancel our trip. Contacted GD about reimbursing unrefunded deposit and they said no. We had a Forest River Rockwood for six years with no warranty issues, and minor repairs. We opted for the GD, because we were told they are quality. What a lie. So far this one is crap. DON’T buy a Grand Design. We should have stick with Forest River.

This is our first GD, and it will be our last GD. We bought it and didn’t do our homework. The a/c has been a problem since 2021 and GD doesn’t seem to care. These over priced, over rated, and poorly designed and workmanship are nothing but a piece of junk. This company is going down hill fast. Now the issues with the frames is a dangerous sad situation that’s GD is trying to shuff under the rug. SHAME ON YOU GRAND DESIGN!!!!
