Actually, it was a 23J, 2007, bought new in 2006. Just traded it with 160K miles on it. Kept outside for two decades. No leaks despite never recaulking it. Fair amounts of flat out on the highway and crawling off road. None of the gauges were accurate. The steps failed over and over. The wheel covers flew off over and over. The TV antenna crank collapsed repeatedly.. W/o ever having an accident it cost about $112K in repairs and maintenance. It sold for $75K back when that was big money. It was worth $30K (retail) at trade. At 60 mph on flat ground and little wind it got 17 mpg. For the first 2 years it was nearly impossible to find chassis service because Dodge Sprinter dealers mostly wouldn't work on them, despite their contractual agreements. Back then, WGO could not be interested to help fix the problem. So I fixed it by calling Chrysler's (Dodge's) chief stockholder, Cerberus. Then everything changed overnight. Quickly the Dodge Sprinter dealers got a legal warning...and Mercedes took back the Sprinter brand.

We love our 24J. Super reliable Mercedes chassis and very reliable interior as well. We had a service warranty and barely used it over the years. It has the ideal layout with tons of storage space, useful kitchen and comfortable beds. The interior is very manageable even with the slide out stowed. We have crossed the country twice and the last trip was for four months. We had one minor issue on the four month trip that was fixed in an hour. We have zero complaints.

After a wonderful experience owning a 2006 View, I bought a 2018 View new at a dealership. Overall, it has been a good RV. It enables great adventures in the outdoors, all over the US. But reliability has been Good, Bad and Ugly. THE GOOD: Mercedes makes a workhorse chassis that is designed to go for years, and get good mileage (14mpg). Winnebago makes a class C that is packed with features and all the comforts of home. THE BAD: Here's what failed in the last 5 years: DEF tank sensor, propane regulator, powered skylight, coach stereo, rear camera, chassis battery, attachment of the front cap to the body, both AM/FM antennas, door deadbolt. THE UGLY: Here's what failed in the very FIRST year: roof A/C compressor, refrigerator thermostat, bathroom fan, house batteries, chassis battery, rooftop solar panels, house grounding wire, Whew. Luckily I kinda like the challenge of fixing things myself, with YouTube's help. RV service centers are inconvenient, slow, expensive and rarely competent. If things keep breaking, I will need to get something else.

First of all, the positives. The rig is a beast of power. The Mercedes Diesel is relentless both off road and on road excursions. I towed over 3K lbs over the steep and high Rocky Mountains of Montana, Denver, New Mexico. The hot desert roads of Death Valley, and the Appalachian Wooded mountains of Georgia, Kentucky and Alabama. Now the negatives, Generator died with 4hours use, toilet connections leaked, Infotainment Center is like a bad relationship (on again, off again) … replaced frozen shower valve … DEF sensor replaced twice, still not consistent … screen door squeaks and rattles like is about ready to fall off … propane tank sensor replaced twice, when this fails you cannot use any of the propane appliances … back up camera keeps freezing … Slide out locked when in a out position … left side stabilizer jack motor failed, using a drill bit to open and close … water pump connection broke, leaked under bed spend a week drying it out … tankless water heater controls are very temperamental, took several hot/cold showers … chrome wheel nut covers were tacked on … when I had the brakes replaced, the mechanic removed them … informed me they were just tacked on with an aluminum bead … I have a bag of shiny chrome nut covers stored in my drawer …. I attached a 120K RV garage to my current 2 car garage, just so this rig would not be exposed to any harsh weather elements … should have just put the money on a higher quality RV, and keep it outside in a cover.

This RV has more features than I can count. Drives very comfortably and no problems with bumps and swaying like other RVs. Hill climbs are easy with this model. Made a number of trips to Northern California through mountains and valleys without any issues. Can also park this vehicle in any campground or just boondock along the road (where safe). I recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for independence and an open road.

Purchased this new from a dealer. It has been in the shop multiple times with only 5,000 miles on it. When new the inverter stopped working, the house batteries were bad, the display stopped working, the door never worked right, refrigerator stopped working, the hood latch broke, and more. Winnebago has pretty much been non existent in helping with anything. They just say go to the manufacturer. It's currently in the shop trying to troubleshoot the refrigerator. After a lot of hassle, RiverPark finally covered the display, but we had to pay labor. If you buy one of these, I would add about 20,000 to your cost for repairs, and go ahead and make an appointment with a shop for repairs beforehand.

Update: Mercedes Benz totally rapes it's customers on service work. The two times I took it if for service cost me $1600 and $1200. BOTH times I had problems created by sloppy workmanship. Once the mechanic spilled diesel over the engine, we thought it was on fire after leaving the dealership. The second time it just stopped running after leaving the dealership. The mechanic had left off a hose clamp to the fuel line at the fuel filter. This was two different dealerships 150 miles apart. Guess this is the Mercedes way. Mercedes Benz will never service my vehicle again!! Winnebago dropped the ball on a faulty water pump. The dealer took care of the repairs. The floor has since gone soft (possibly from the leaky water pump?) and Winnebago refused to assist in any way. In my earlier post I mentioned the three regulators on the propane tank, Winnebago finally sent me the correct regulator (the one I kept telling the dealers that Winnebago recommended) and I installed it myself, uncovering two errors made by one dealer or the other in past installations. What does it take to get a quality vehicle and a manufacturer that will stand behind it's product?
