Tiffin has a great reputation for quality -built RVs, something the industry lacks in general. However, the heavy demand for the Wayfarer has put a lot of stress on the manufacturer to meet this demand and a lot of units are pushed out the door with significant quality control issues, maybe hoping the dealers will correct these issues. Of course, if you've been around the industry for more than a few years you know that isn't going to happen.
The Wayfarer has some of the latest electronic technology available for RVs today but lacks the documentation on how to operate and understand this technology. You need to go online to the specific product venders and search for the user manuals. But beyond that, the Go Power unit was not set up properly (for lithium batteries) therefore not using the proper charge profile. Plus, the Victron BMV-712 was not reset properly and showed way more discharge current than charge current, indicating really dead batteries that were actually fully charged.
Another questionable observation was that there are two ground cables coming off the battery bank of two Dragonfly 100ah lithium batteries. If a shunt battery monitor is being used, as is in this case, only one ground cable is allowed from the shunt to chassis ground. Otherwise, there will be undetected power passing through the second ground cable. And since the shunt and cables are hidden behind the batteries it is very difficult to actually see how the shunt is connected and there is no power cabling documentation for reference. Also, the Victron BMV-712 has the ability to monitor the starter battery voltage OR the temperature of your battery. Well, the necessary cable for this is either not installed or disconnected. Again, difficult to tell because of the inaccessibility of the shunt and lack of documentation.
This is important stuff here as the battery bank is the life blood of the RV and the unsuspecting owner is left in the dark with a bunch of highly technical "junk" if he (she) can't understand how to use it or whether or not the numbers on them are good news or bad news.
In my opinion, Tiffin is sliding on a very slippery slope of poor quality control, only to join the rest of the pack. Is this the result of the merger with Thor? Who knows?
