Grand Design Solitude 5th Wheel reviews

Grand Design sold us Solitude with extra fitting hole in grey tank. The tank overflowed through our underbelly. Grand Design denied the claim saying ‘Grand Design doesn’t know how the extra fitting got there’. We took it to GD dealership who confirmed the issue. GD denied warranty claim. Show less

Ug… we spent over our budget on this unit because of Grand Designs quality claims, but it is terribly put together. From the fixtures to the mechanical, we’ve had to fix so much. I could submit a laundry list of items from cabinets breaking to hydraulics going wonky, but I’ll just say, bring tools for the small stuff and budget a good amount for big repairs… or buy an older unit that was well built. After months of shopping and review (quite a bit of it here! Thanks RVInsider!) I've just picked up a 2019 Grand Design Solitude 380FL. We knew we wanted a front living floor plan but just about everything else was up in the air. After looking at so many RVs, all I can say is how shocked I was by how many RV manufacturers there are out there building extremely disappointing RVs. Even some that I thought were supposed to be high quality just felt flimsy and fragile with obvious short-cuts taken everywhere you look. Open Range was the most surprising. I've always been told they are some of the best, but after a jammed-open black tank valve and a the salesman telling my wife "Oh no the floor flexing like that is pretty much standard in everything you're going to look at." No, it's not. Grand Design floor are absolutely rock solid. Another surprising flaw to compare with Open Range is the lack of storage. In their flagship FL model, they built in (I think) 8ft ceilings in the rear bedroom. Grand Design opted to elevate the bedroom, creating massive amounts of storage space beneath. More storage than I think I'll ever practically use. The floor plan is incredible. Almost every other FL seemed to have either a half-bath or pantry in the kitchen. Grand Design put both in this unit, which just feels amazing! Last up is the rear bathroom. In 2019 they switched it up to include the most amazing bathroom I've ever seen in an rv, (and most houses honestly. The shower isn't the largest, but has about a 4 inch drop and a decent amount of space. The toilets are solid, the double vanity is awesome and there's enough space to do yoga. All of the wood feels like actual finished wood. It is clearly NOT that awful particle board with some wood panel cover/sticker crap that just peels off. The counters are actually solid. Everything is just so solid! The only star I can dock from Grand Design is in the towing category because with all the solid construction, these things are HEAVY! A full 2000 lbs higher dry weight vs. the Open Range, but again, that weight savings is what made the Open Range feel so flimsy. Show less

So far replaced microwave. Fire place. Stove. And now have to replace 2 awnings. 5 slide toppers every one torn at the seam next to the camper wall. 5th wheel will be 3 in September. Mfr gives a 90 day warranty on awnings. Show less

Our Grand Design Solitude 375RES has truly been a joy. We have had practically no issues with this pre-pandemic manufactured unit since we received it. I personally like all the storage space available. This camper is full of luxury. We have mostly kept the unit on a seasonal site, but have travelled with it on occasion. We had upgraded to the unit with the MoRyde 8K Independent Suspension and Disc Breaks. We also installed an additional bi-directional storage tray and RV Cord rollup up unit. The camper handles like a dream and is a true pleasure to tow. Show less

This is our fifth RV and by far, the most outstanding 5th wheel we have ever owned. The floor plan is incredible - fully equipped kitchen with an island, lots of storage with a pantry and drawers, residential refrigerator and stove. a microwave/convection, plus a neat window over the double kitchen sinks! You will not run out of cabinets for storage. The living area is spacious with two love seats, 50" TV with stereo system on a beautiful wood wall decor, entertainment seating with heat & vibration options. You could set up a card table and four chairs and still have lots of room. The bathroom has two sinks, two medicine cabinets, spa shower unit and lots of storage. The bedroom has storage underneath the bed with a deep pull out drawer, the top of the dresser lifts up for jewelry, etc, the closet is very spacious and there is a washer and dryer in a separate closet in the bedroom. The 5th wheel has full body paint in Cabernet and the underneath storage is incredible! You can access underneath all the way around! Axle-front & rear 8000# wit DISC Brakes are the best the the Lippert 6-Point automatic leveling system. There are many windows for openness and lots of light. There is a built in camera system on the exterior - everything you would ever need is on this unit. We absolutely loved our four month time in it and unfortunately my husband passed unexpectedly and that is the only reason it is for sale. This is the perfect one! Show less

Grand Design is stealing $3,000 from me after their junk of a kitchen slide broke and I was issued a case number now they are reneging on reimbursing me for my expenses after being told they would cover my costs. The Frame is terrible as nails pop through the linoleum floors. I hate Grand Design and their customer service department. I would recommend you never buy a Grand Design product as one day they will burn you as they are burning me right now. Show less

We love this Rig,its just that health issues ,we are going back to brick and mortar. So we have to sell ,but i have done all the work on this rig as far as all maintenance up keep to packing bearing and anything else ,that may come up,nobody else has owned this rig but the wife and i okay,new west lake tires 14 ply this rig is ready to go its a west coast trailer also,very nice rig,give us a call today as it will go fast. 702-281-4136 Cindy/George Ps. Likes: Great floorplan, and storage, the Nautilus water system, Nice added features like central vac, beautiful kitchen Island, excellent pantry with drawers, big side-by-side 18cf fridge, blackout shades, built-in desk, hide-away TV, Fireplace, and a heat pump/AC for when you run out of propane. Dislikes: Cheap roof structure that had to be replaced, small dresser with tiny drawers, cheap microwave that failed, shower door that leaked profusely (wasn't even calked!), Show less
