2020 Airstream reviews

We have owned our Airstream Atlas Murphy suite for 3 years and just completed camping in all of the lower 48 states! Everything we didn’t like in our previous Interstate has been corrected in the design of this van. All outdoor supplies (firewood, grilling supplies, chairs, table, outdoor games etc) can be stored in the cabinets on the exterior. This leaves all of the interior cabinets for food, clothing, bedding and entertainment. Having a full bathroom across the back of the van allows for privacy and comfort. everything dries out completely allowing you to easily live in the van for many nights in row. The kitchen is well thought out, the refrigerator and microwave are at a functional height, and there is a pullout pantry for food along the side of the refrigerator. The two recliners and large television are perfect for winding down at night. The murphy bed is very comfortable and the slide out allows you to walk around 3 sides of the bed. My experiences with our airstream atlas is not great . Being 70 years old my wife and I wanted a small comfortable rv to travel in and chose the atlas even though it was expensive. Currently with 20,000 miles in it I must say that the Mercedes part has been wonderful . Other than dealing with recalls, and having to change the chassis battery , I can say it’s been a joy to drive I take it to my Mercedes dealer once a year for oil change, updating recalls and general inspection before departing on our winter trip . My wife says it’s like driving and riding in a car . I wish I could say the same about the airstream side . It’s has been nothing but issue after issue. We have not taken one trip where something hasn’t happened . Constant issues with the controls on the black and grey tank. Have replaced the black tank valve twice and the grey tank once and still can’t get them to operate properly. Must say it’s not easy being 70 crawling under the rv and opening and closing the tanks by hand to empty each time because the controls malfunctioned. Have taken it to the airstream dealer near me 4 times pertaining to the tank situation only to find that after driving it 125 miles home that there is still issues . Each time the visit averaged costing $ 2000,00. You wouldn’t expect this on a luxury rv costing $250,000.00 . Airstream did awful job with quality and location of various panels to fix things . First time out the water heater had to be reset . You would think the reset would be easily assessable but to get to it you have to take out the drawers under the cooktop and reach to the back taking out two small screws to push the reset button. Unfortunately this had to be done several times which is a lot of work to simply push a button . The couch seems to get stuck in the down position frequently. I found this to be mainly because the fuse would not stay in its position . Finally fixed this with a piece of electrical tape. Problem is you have to take drawers out , lay on the floor and reach to the back of the couch to get to the fuse box for the couch . The door locks on the cabinets are useless as they don’t keep any door closed while traveling. I can go on and on but feel I have spewed enough . Finally I had a good friend within days of buying a new atlas that I sat down with and talked about my issues. He ended up buying a LT Leisure Van instead and loved it . Same floor plan and size with same Mercedes chassis but costing several thousand dollars less . Show less

This RV is awesome! We love the quality and craftsmanship Airstream offers. The materials used inside and out are of the highest quality. The Globetrotter has lots of great storage throughout. The bathroom and shower are nicely sized and well thought out along with all of the other living areas. Show less

Bought Feb 2020 and due to pandemic, only has 6000 miles on it. Problems: 1. Fridge broke down in Spring 2021 - had to wait 6 months for replacement. I have been traveling with a cooler. 2. Constant issues with steps not folding up when door is closed 3. Door would not open when vehicle stopped. 4. Stabilizer jacks stuck and would not descend for months 5. One ceiling vent falling off Otherwise very nice to drive. Airstream needs to improve quality in production and be more responsive to customer. Show less

Exceptional quality and workmanship throughout. Includes top of the line appliances, fixtures and products. Built to last many many years and handed down through the generations. There is no detailed spared when manufacturing or outfitting this Airstream - very impressive. Show less

Very goid craftsmanship and Quakity, Mercedes air ride chassis, , Air Ride, slide out, mire room than most Class B RV’s Con: very expensive for the square Feet. A bit sluggish on initial start off. Price price price Show less

We've really enjoyed this RV. A bit tight for really long stays, but perfect for several nights at a time, long drives, or tailgating. We had to replace the awning and it took a bit of time because of the overall popularity of these models. But we could still use it while waiting on the new one to come in. Had an issue with the Mercedes half of it on one trip, but called a Mercedes dealer in Wisconsin (where we were heading) and they knew exactly what it needed and had us in and out. Great experience with both Airstream and Mercedes overall. Show less

Great Travel trailer for a couple and small kids. Amazingly light and aerodynamic to pull with most tow equipped SUV’s. We like it so much that we upgraded to a larger Airstream after one trip! Our take on buying an airstream is that buying a very recent pre-owned airstream can be better than buying a new one because... all the factory kinks are usually worked out by the first owners, warranty is still valid, unit is usually upgraded by first owner and it offers a much better price quality ratio. But overall, really fun to travel in, most people love them and always great conversations to strike on the road or while camping. Show less

When we decided to buy an RV, we decided also to buy the best quality we could find. We had recently sold a quality boat and wanted to continue enjoying the pleasantries that come with good construction, appearance and utility. We also had an ancient history of Airstream life, as my parents had had one early one, had travelled with Wally Byamm and had taken my brother and I on cross country excursions for seven years while we were growing. So Airstream became our immediate first choice and after inspecting several Class B RVs from other manufacturers it was clear our choice was made. Not that there aren't some spectacular RVs out there, but when you get to Class B, the competition shrinks. Combining Airstream body quality with Mercedes chassis quality is a wonderful marriage. We do not yet have many travel miles and consequent experiences yet, but in the short time we have owned our Airstream Atlas, nicknamed Remedy after our boat, we're truly pleased with our decision. The nice thing about the size, as even with the slide out it is a compact cabin, is the versatility to move about at will. We've taken it into busy towns to buy groceries, driven through neighborhoods looking for a new homesite, with ease. I do think that having a tow vehicle is a plus in the long run, and we plan to add a mini-cooper convertible accordingly. The price tag of an Atlas is hefty, but if you can get there it's worth the ride. Show less

This has been our very first RV experience of any kind. We have had the Atlas for 5 months, and have spent 20 nights in it and about 5,000 miles. We've had a few minor problems that I fixed myself. After reading of some problems others had I emailed customer support and asked if they could identify any common problems that I might run into, and what I could do to be prepared. They promptly sent me information about some replacement fuses I could keep on hand, and a replacement pin for the automatic steps. I haven't needed either. I've owned many new cars and I realize that on such complicated machines there will be problems and adjustments needed. The Atlas is even more complicated, so it shouldn't be a surprise that things might happen. But (knock wood) I've been very happy with the Atlas and the responses I've gotten when I've communicated with customer service with questions. I've had many compliments from other rv'ers, and I love the conveniences and ease of setup and moving.O Show less
