2019 Grand Design Solitude 5th Wheel reviews

After months of shopping and review (quite a bit of it here! Thanks RVInsider!) I've just picked up a 2019 Grand Design Solitude 380FL. We knew we wanted a front living floor plan but just about everything else was up in the air. After looking at so many RVs, all I can say is how shocked I was by how many RV manufacturers there are out there building extremely disappointing RVs. Even some that I thought were supposed to be high quality just felt flimsy and fragile with obvious short-cuts taken everywhere you look. Open Range was the most surprising. I've always been told they are some of the best, but after a jammed-open black tank valve and a the salesman telling my wife "Oh no the floor flexing like that is pretty much standard in everything you're going to look at." No, it's not. Grand Design floor are absolutely rock solid. Another surprising flaw to compare with Open Range is the lack of storage. In their flagship FL model, they built in (I think) 8ft ceilings in the rear bedroom. Grand Design opted to elevate the bedroom, creating massive amounts of storage space beneath. More storage than I think I'll ever practically use. The floor plan is incredible. Almost every other FL seemed to have either a half-bath or pantry in the kitchen. Grand Design put both in this unit, which just feels amazing! Last up is the rear bathroom. In 2019 they switched it up to include the most amazing bathroom I've ever seen in an rv, (and most houses honestly. The shower isn't the largest, but has about a 4 inch drop and a decent amount of space. The toilets are solid, the double vanity is awesome and there's enough space to do yoga. All of the wood feels like actual finished wood. It is clearly NOT that awful particle board with some wood panel cover/sticker crap that just peels off. The counters are actually solid. Everything is just so solid! The only star I can dock from Grand Design is in the towing category because with all the solid construction, these things are HEAVY! A full 2000 lbs higher dry weight vs. the Open Range, but again, that weight savings is what made the Open Range feel so flimsy. Show less

I have been an RVer since childhood. I have owned travel trailers and a Grand Design 2019 Solitude 380 FL-R. This 5th wheel is one of the BEST long term, over the road rig available. This is a 4 season rig made for the gray and for frigid temperatures, whether traveling through Florida or Arizona in the summer, or enjoying the could-frigid weather of the northeastern states like Maine in the winter, this rig is fit for all environments. Two large A/C’s keep you cool centrally in the summer and three separate heating sources ( heat pump/gas or electric furnace/ living room fireplace). The unit Sleeps 6 large adults comfortably. With the nicety of two bathrooms, there is never a line waiting for restroom privileges. The residential refrigerator, large cooking surface and oven makes you feel as if you are at home. The master bedroom’s 14” mattress is so comfortable one has challenges getting out of bed in the morning to watch the sunrise. This by far is the Best rig I have ever owned. Never an issue with any of the rigs workmanship. Grand Design did an Outstanding job with this 5th wheel. 5 Stars no doubt. Show less

UNIT IS ACTUALLY A GRAND DESIGN SOLITUDE 3350-RL (not available in drop-down menu) We purchased this unit to live in while building our house. Within days of putting it on our owned RV site, we began noticing problems - a huge leak in the understorage, poor quality in the kitchen sink (began showing rust spots within the first week), unit arrived with dents in the bathroom sinks Show less

This RV tows better than our 31 foot bumper pull did. It is so spacious and comfortable that my wife and I have actually spent some nights in it while it sat in our driveway, just because we love it so much but couldn't get away. Show less

Just bought it have had 4other fifth wheels over the years the quality is ok not top of the line lots of trim mistakes not stapled properly no toilet paper hanger or face cloth holder in bathroom kinda of tacky opened the bathroom cupboard and saw on the wall a 4 inch round hole where somebody made a mistake at factory and left it there the quality of work is just not there. I would never recommend Grand design solitude we have had trouble since the day we put it off a lot refrigerator promote broke from the floor 2 months after we bought it handrail broke a month after we bought it we've had a leak underneath the trailer since we bought it we paid it off so we can trade it in on something else and Grand design couldn't even get us a clear title they said that was my responsibility. Grand Design makes an exceptional product followed by their over-the-top customer service. They believe in their product and it shows. I could see myself living in my 375RES with my husband full-time. It has 3 separate living areas(Living, Bedroom and Kitchen) so you don't feel like you're living on top of each other. We love our RV! Show less

We love the layout of this RV, it's easy to maintain and gorgeous to see coming down the road. Keeping the outside clean is the key to it's beauty and like anything else, you take care of it and do the yearly maintenance on it, the rig will not fail you. We get compliments on it all the time and it is affordable. Show less

We bought a brand new Solitude at the first of the year. Due to COVID19 the trailer was in storage until June. We stocked the trailer during this down time. Every time we went out to the trailer the battery was dead. When we hooked up the trailer to the truck to move it to a place where we could work on it the stabilizers failed to move. I leaned against a wall in the bed room and the lights went out. When we finally took the trailer out for the maiden voyage, the washer valve leaked gallons of water onto the floor. We found that the stabilizers had a short, there was a short in a light switch in the bedroom, the faucet for the washer was broken. Your quality control is horrible during your manufacturing process. After the maiden voyage with you elite trailer I would not wish the ownership of your trailers on to my worst enemy. The trailer spent weeks in the dealership for repairs (about 5 weeks to get repairs made) Slowest repairs at your dealership. Many of our complaints could not be duplicated in the repair shop so not everything was fixed. Will have to see on the next trip if these other un-fixed items were due to all the electrical shorts in the trailer. Spent over $1,000.00 for a Solar panel and additional battery. Worst trailer of the year award goes to Grand Design Solitude. Would give you less rating than a one, but your scale does not go that low. Thank you for your verbal concern. The dealer said nothing was wrong with the battery and they did not fix or repair the battery. They did sell me a second battery in an attempt to stop the dead battery every time we go to the trailer. I added the solar panel in an attempt to solve the problem myself. Will go out to the trailer this weekend and see if I have two dead batteries or if the solar panel will keep them charged. If you think all the issues have been addressed, then your wrong. Electrical shorts in a trailer are a dangerous situation and can cause a fire while we are in the trailer. You might want to address the bigger issue of quality control in your production line. If your people had tested the stabilizer system then they would have seen the issue before the trailer went on the market. Had your people inspected the dead battery issue before the trailer was sold then there would not have been any dangerous issue that the new owners would have to address. PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES AT STAKE WITH SELLING A TRAILER WITH NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL SHORTS IN YOUR PRODUCT IS UNACCEPTABLE. Show less

This is in regards to a 2019 385GK, new purchase. Very poor walk thru when purchased. Noticed that the sewer cap was missing when we brought it home. So far since we purchased, we replaced the bath sink faucet and realized that the counter is laminated with some type of paper, the living room TV was of such poor quality that we had to replace it, the DVD player is of very poor quality and won't play a disc correctly, the bed is the same quality that comes in a $20000 trailer. We have had to repair interior trim that has fallen off, the Furion stove has very poor flame adjustment capabilities, the AC units are very noisy, the bath fan is very cheap and now the inferior quality Norcold fridge just totally died. This is a 2019 that was claimed to be the dealerships top quality product. And I can say without hesitation that the 285 point quality inspection they talk about can't have happened on this unit. I am very dissatisfied with the trailer for the price point. It is no higher in quality than that of a trailer that is half the price. I am very sorry that I bought a grand design product and will not waste the time or money to purchase one again. Show less
