2019 Grand Design Travel Trailer reviews

I really like the floor plan layout of the unit. The wife loves the cabinets and the pantry. She also likes the wardrobe closet in the bedroom that is the entire width of the trailer. It has a clothes bar and shelves for even more storage. I’m over 6 feet tall and I don’t feel cramped in here, even in the shower. I like that the head of the bed is located in the slide out and runs across the width of the trailer instead of the length, like most trailer’s beds. It even has room at the foot of the bed for a dresser and room to get dressed in front of it, instead of being cramped. The kitchen sink is located against the back of the trailer which gives ample space for kitchen duties and lots of cabinet space for dishes. I also like storage area lights that can be switched to motion detection, which is pretty handy when your hands are full. The light above the entry door can also be switched to motion, which is nice at night, so you never have to enter a dark trailer. One of the things I don’t like is that the kitchen floor squeaks a lot, even when completely level. The bathroom sink could also stand to be a little bit larger and deeper. We brought a Lancer travel trailer in 2019. I will never buy Lance trailer again. We have a lemon it has broken down 10 times. And we wait for parts for ever. It’s in the shop again waiting on parts. They had for a month. If you are thinking of buying a lance run don’t walk they are garbage. Show less

Roof blew off last year on 2019. Warranty basically gave us the middle finger. GD certified repair facility said it was a manufacturer defect. $12,000. 00 REPLACEMENT. Next trip out it blew a tire, granted these tires looked brand new. Ripped off the siding on the trailer. Then the outside shower blew a plastic POS pressure water fitting and flooded the entire underneath storage compartment. Had this been a fitting NOT to the outside shower, it would have flooded the ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE RV. I suppose that will be next?!!! This trailer is GARBAGE AND THE WARRANTY IS USELESS. Show less

I looked for awhile because I needed a 2 bedroom 2 bath travel trailer. I relocate often do to work and needed the space for my family. Very rare to find one with both needs. I finally found this one. All the upgrades to weren't bad either. Lots of space and room to spread out. The inside amenities and upgraded residential aesthetics are great to ,doesn't make it seem to much like a trailer which is really nice since we would be missing that for awhile. Stays quite warm in the winter and very cool in summer. The outside kitchen is great to for the summer. Show less

I have owned a couple of travel trailers over the past 20 years. In 2019, my wife and I purchased a new Grand Design trailer after we became empty nesters. I had the typical new trailer issues and had to interact with an inept dealer repair service in our area. I stated calling Grand Design directly and they were always able to assist me with the few issues we had. My wife and I had put over 8000 miles on the trailer in about 2 1/2 years and had one of the fender skirts crack. I called Grand Design and they shipped me the new skirt. Thats service!! We recently made the decision to go full time when I retire in a little over a year. We had been unofficially shopping for 5th wheels that are more suitable for full time use. After my last interaction with Grand Design, I will go back to them for our full-time 5th wheel. Great support and they stand behind their product. Show less

We have loved our 312bhts. The quality of the trailer is superior to other brands we have owned. If you get a chance I recommend going on the manufacturing tour to see the attention to detail that is put into each coach. We have had great warranty support from both the factory and the extended warranty company. With that being said we haven't had anything major that needed repairing such as the slide-outs, frame, electric, or plumbing but the minor repairs have been handled to my satisfaction. We love the floor plan, enough room for our 3 kids and our 2 four-legged friends. I would definitely recommend both this model (floor plan) and the manufacturer. Show less

We are only selling this unit because we bought a park model in our current RV Park. This unit is truly a "couples coach". The opposing slides in the living area gives ample room to move around. Having a separate bedroom from the living area made it very comfortable. The storage in this unit is very good. Overall, we absolutely loved this unit. Show less

From the day we bought this unit there have been nothing but problems and recalls from the company. The dealership I purchased this unit from has a pathetic service department. We are retired and use our unit often. The factory contacts you about a defect and then wants you to pay the expense of parts and labor,provide photo documents to the fact and they determine if they reimburse you for the parts (that they say are knowingly defective) and they will not pay all the labor. The door of my trailer touts a big 3 year warranty promise but the factory has a different tune when they contact you. The list of defects is too numerous to list here but they include a defective inverter, ac (numerous times), refrigerator issues both propane and electric, battery charging issues galore, battery buddy issues, propane valve issues, axle bearings, leaking or rubbing thru of propane lines that are rubber not gas pipe, We chose this unit due to it having a large kitchen area and plenty of counter space. The layout of this unit is perfect for our needs as we spend large amounts of time in one place each summer. All the defects that are brought up require you to take the unit to a dealer and they will not give a for sure appointment you just have to leave the unit and they get to it at their convience. . This is our home for much of the year and this unit has spent many long periods at service centers awaiting basic simple repairs. I am a retired mechanic but the factory will not let me fix these problems myself. We have been an RV family for a lot of years and this unit was a retirement gift to my wife and I to enjoy our retirement. This unit has been a nightmare that don't seem to end. I certanly would not buy another Grand Design product and do not recommend them to anyone else. They are basically a rolling hunk of overpriced junk that the factory makes the sevice issue way more complicated than it has to be. I have a stack of service invoices and numerous emails to support every statement I've made here. Show less

We were so excited about getting a Grand Design product, but our excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The quality and customer service are just not there. Little things started failing almost at once. We did get some of the issues patched up before warranty expired, but more problems followed. To start with: Drawers were put in crooked and won’t stay closed during travel. Cabinet doors were hinged incorrectly and didn’t latch. Handles on cabinetry have metal burrs that cut hands. Shades bottom bars fall off shades constantly. Currently experimenting with packing tape to hold them. Theater seating controls on one side stopped working. Listed, but not repaired under warranty. Basement doors warped to the point of no longer sealing. Warranty gave us new doors, but did not cover installation. Leak in awning directly over doorway; listed, but not repaired by warranty. Pieces of decorative trim missing in middle of run. After warranty expired: Lights failed on awning and entrance. Plastic wood print paper that covers cabinets and doors fraying from normal use. We have contacted Grand Design concerning quality issues , but got no response This is not our first travel trailer and had no issues with previous one (Forest River). After two years we are considering a new trailer, and it DEFINITELY will not be a Grand Design! I would not recommend a Grand Design based based on our experience. Show less

The was used three times after I spent $3,000 on renovations. New queen mattresses, 60 lb propane tanks, winter underbelly, etc. this trailer is better than new. I am 75 and I Don t feel safe driving it. A new one costs $47,000 plus Show less
